11 AugThe Saga of the Hair Trim

BarbbobFor some time my seventeen-year-old daughter, Clorinda, had been asking her mom to trim her hair. Her mom is not a trained stylist. When the kids were younger she didn’t hesitate to trim hair. In fact she would call them in and order them to “sit!” She’s not as quick to trim the hair of the older kids. I would assume it’s because the hair styles are more demanding and the kids are more particular. For whatever reasons Clorinda’s mom kept putting her off. For several days her mom always had a trivial excuse as to why she couldn’t do it right then.

The day came when Clorinda would have no more putting off. It was a lazy summer morning. Mom was in the kitchen and clearly had nothing pending. The trim was going to happen NOW.

“Mom, stay right there,” Clorinda said. “I’ll bring the scissors and towel.”

It only took a moment for Clorinda to retrieve the items. When she returned to her irritation she saw her mom slipping out the back door.

Clorinda is a patient girl, but her patience ran out. Exasperated she ran to the back door.

“Mom!” she yells. “Get back here!”

Realizing she had been caught Mom squealed like a child and began running toward her studio outbuilding. She’s not one used to running and managed only a quick trot with hands held out on both sides of her.

Clorinda wasn’t having any of this. There was no reason why her Mom couldn’t trim her hair right then. Determined and annoyed she gave chase. When her mom reached the door to her studio she glanced back. The sight of Clorinda booking it up the walkway, scissors in hand, made her scream in horror and delight. She entered her room and slammed the door.

“Mom!” Clorinda yelled. “Open the door!”

It wasn’t locked. Clorinda burst in. She found her mother wide-eyed and laughing like a child finally cornered. Tears of delight from her little escapade ran down her face.

“What is wrong with you,” Clorinda asked. She started to laugh, too. Confused, but determined, she handed her mom the scissors and stayed between her mom and the door. When she came out of the studio her hair had been trimmed.

That was simultaneously hilarious and frightening. I can’t believe Clorinda was running with scissors! I’m glad no one got hurt. Thanks for the delightful write-up 🙂
